The local culture is something you can experience everyday. Food, handicrafts, carpentry and traditional celebrations and festivals, all along with a varied offer of sport activities allow the visitor to live and discover the essence of the territory

How to arrive

Take Ruta 7 or Carretera Austral in Puerto Montt. You can travel by bus or other transportation such as bicycle, motorcycle, van, car, etc.
You will travel 46 kilometers from
Puerto Montt until you reach Caleta La Arena, there you must embark on a ferry that will take you to Caleta Puelche. The journey lasts 30 minutes, and you will arrive to the southern soils of Hualaihué commune. Also you can come to Hualaihué through Cochamó commune, lining the Llanquihue lake all the way down to Ensenada, then continue through the route V-691 which goes along the riverside of the Reloncaví Estuary and connects to Hualaihué commune in Puelche.

If you come from
Chaitén, you should take a bus or another tranportation that goes to Caleta Gonzalo, located 60 kilometers north. Firstly, you must take a ferry that goes to Fiordo Largo, then you will have to travel 10 kms on land to Caleta Leptepu and continue the sea trip to Hornopirén, capital of Hualaihué.
The nearest airport is located in the city of
Puerto Montt, where there are daily flights from and to Santiago


Attractions Map

Hualaihué has multiple landscapes and natural places to visit. Once you cross the Reloncaví Estuary and arrive to Puelche cove, the starting point of our commune, you will find the town of Contao, a historical place for its magnificent millenary larch trees.

If you travel along the COASTAL ROUTE, a 60-km-route, you will find the riverside carpenters and their boats, churches built with larch trees from the area, shore collectors and an abundant gastronomy. You will also find the magnificent Poe caves and La Silla hill in Hualaihué Puerto village.

The Coastal Route ends in El Varal village where you re-enter to the Carretera Austral and find the villages El Manzano, Pichicolo and Puntilla de Pichicolo, until reaching Hornopirén.

In Hornopirén you will find the volcano of the same name that measures 1,572 meters, the Hornopirén National Park of 19,000 ha, the Río Negro and the Río Blanco.
The commune has plenty of hot springs, which you can find a step away from the sea, immersed in the forest, near lakes or amid the fjords.
